The Spot Interview with: My Pink Zebra Boutique

Meet the Moms Behind My Pink Zebra Boutique

Who is My Pink Zebra Boutique and what sets you apart from other boutiques? Where are you located?
The Pink Zebra Boutique has 2 locations: A physical Shop in the Historical Katy, Texas and also on online shop, www.MyPinkZebraBoutique.com.

The Pink Zebra was founded in January 2007 with the Grand Opening of our brick & mortar shop. The shop is nestled in a quaint historical neighborhood amongst a landscaped waterfall and stream, 2 beautiful gazebos and a Victorian house converted into a Tea Room. Store Manager Trevor Thorson, runs the shop daily and takes in custom orders, chats with the customers and participates in local craft shows. Jennifer Cirka, our On-line Manager, maintains our website store, the forum for customers and designers alike, as well as Blogging 6 days a week to keep customers "in the know" about our specials and features. We have over 20 designers who make many Custom Boutique items....Baby clothes & gifts, children's clothing and accessories, Mommy Jewels & jeans.... I could never list everything we have to offer!! Y'all just have to check the website or make a stop in Katy to visit the shop!!

How did you come up with your business name?
Well, There were 4 girls standing in the tiny shop, looking at the ugly red and cream walls considering a total paint makeover, when we decided to go Pink & White with black accents. Like a Pink Zebra! Hence, the Pink Zebra name was born.

When and why did you decide to start your own business?
Jennifer & I have been designing for eBay customers for several years now, as way to supplement the family income, while still being SAHM's for our children. We have been in 3 major design groups together, but both of us had grew tired of the scene and knew it was time for a change. Acquiring the storefront was actually quite by accident..... But a real blessing as I could never have found it on my own.

How did you get started?
LOL, I called J one day out of the blue and asked her, "So, how much stuff can you send me to sell in a store?" I told her about my storefront opportunity and we have been building our design team and filling up both the website and shop with so many designs, it'll make your head spin!!

What motivates you to keep your business going?
Every customer who walks through the door is mesmerized by the decor and all the handmade items. They touch and feel each design and admire with obvious delight. The compliments and enthusiasm my customers show me and tell me I am doing the right thing. Also, every time a package arrives from one of my designers.... I open it and savor every new design, as I draw it from the box and hang it on my racks.

How do you juggle family and work at home?
Juggle?? I am glad you did not ask my DH this question!! I have a routine.. a schedule of sorts. Drop the kids at school, check my email and blogs, etc., shower, open the shop from 11am to 3:30pm. Get home by 4 when the kiddos arrive home. Homework, change clothes, and off to my evening job. Home at 11pm and get a little "Me time" to sew or play on the computer.

What advice would you give to moms seeking to become a WAHM?
Do what you LOVE. Follow your heart, your dreams. Find someone who shares the same dreams and work together. My friendship with Jennifer is the best ever. She is my friend, my confidant, my cheerleader and my business partner. I (we) could never have come so far and become successful, without each other.
