Meet the Mom Behind Passion Spice!

Who is Passion Spice? Where are you located?
PassionSpice is a sexy Maternity and Nursing Wear Company owned by Katy and Wes Linda. Our products are designed to help women feel sexy and confident during a time in our lives when many of us don't feel that way. It is our goal to help couples remain connected at a time in life that can be very stressful. We are located in Baltimore, Maryland.


When and why did you decide to start your own business?
When I found out I was pregnant with my daughter I knew that I needed to start my own business so that I could work from home. My previous career was not conducive to being a parent and I felt that it was important to be home with her. I tried my hand at a few ideas before finding something that truly was my passion.

How did you get started?
PassionSpice sort of fell into our laps. While I was in the early months of breastfeeding, I wanted nursing bras that were attractive, and not the run of the mill nursing bra most of us think of. After months and months of searching I discovered PassionSpice Maternity. I immediately fell in love with the products and my husband and his business built a relationship with the company. Two years later they decided to sell the company. My husband and I jumped at the chance and purchased the assets of the old company. We then formed PassionSpice Maternity and Nursing Wear and I took control of the reigns so to speak. It is a dream come true to be able to own a business that I love.


What motivates you to keep your business going?
As a nursing mother in a part of a generation who loves to feel sexy and attractive, I feel it is my mission to help other pregnant and nursing mothers find products that will help them feel sexy and self confident during their pregnancy and breastfeeding time. These are times when most women don't feel empowered and self confident. I strive to reach as many women as I can, because I know how important the PassionSpice products have been to me, and I want other women to experience that too!


Do you have a particular product that's a best seller and that you are promoting on your site?
Our top selling nursing bra is the Belle bra. It is a lace bra, with a lactation safe underwire, and extra v-shaped support inside. It is available in both red and white and it looks great when paired with the matching Bella Bikini. Right now we have our Gina nursing bra on clearance. It is a low inventory item, so we decided it would be best to sell through them and we have them priced to sell! The Gina also has a lactation safe underwire, and provides a little extra lift with it's more structured cups. It features a lace trim, and is available in black and turquoise. The Gina is a sure hit when paired with the Genie Bikini or Petra Thong.


How do you advertise your business? Which methods proved successful/effective?
I advertise in all of the major search engines. We have ads with Google, Yahoo, and MSN. I also have made contacts with many "mommy bloggers" and I am doing what I can to advertise with them, have them review our products, and/or have them sign up as a part of our affiliate program. We have found the search engine ads to be productive so far. The affiliate program is too new to judge at this point.


How do you juggle family and work at home?
My daughter is pre-school age, and I have moved my office into our living room. This allows me to be with her all day, and I can respond to emails and phone calls when needed. I try to do as much as I can during nap time, and I take a few minutes here or there to make sure that my daughter is getting the attention she needs from me.


What advice would you give to moms seeking to become a WAHM?
I would encourage other women to find something that they are truly passionate about and put your all into it. If you try to find something to do from home, and you have no interest in it, it won't be successful. If your business is a passion of yours, the sky is the limit.
