Who is 2PreppyGirls? Where are you located?
2PreppyGirls specializes in Monogrammed gifts. We sell wonderful vinyl monogram decals to accessorize anything that can't be embroidered as well as Preppy Monogrammed Hats, Personalized Checkbook Covers, Monogrammed Hats and Visors... and so much more! Our Preppy Monogrammed gifts make any girl smile! 2PreppyGirls is located just outside of Washington, DC in Northern Virginia.


How did you come up with your business name?
I have always loved Preppy Fashion and when I had my 2 daughters, Lindsey and Jamie, I decided to name my company for them; my 2 preppy girls!

When and why did you decide to start your own business?
I am kind of addicted to searching the internet for preppy items for my daughters. I found that I was falling in love with so many items and buying a lot!! Then, when I e-mailed one of the vendors to tell her how much I looooved her products, she casually said that I should start selling out of my home. Then my husband said he would build a little website for me, and when he wasn’t looking, I added all sorts of products and vendors to my site and it just kind of blossomed from there! I have SO much fun finding fun, cute products and adding them to my website for other stylish mommies!


How did you get started?
WOW… It all happened so fast! I ordered some Christmas gifts that I really loved and then by January we had a website and started selling! It really kind of exploded!! It’s been really fun, that’s for sure!

What motivates you to keep your business going?
All the super cute things that I find! If I love it myself, then it goes on the site! Also, I get lots of great e-mails from other women who love my website and that just makes me so happy! Something that I created out of thin air; perfect strangers love it!


Do you have a particular product that's a best seller on your site?
As I write this, it’s graduation time across the country and I have to say that my Black and White Damask Monogrammed Laptop Cases have been a huge hit! Also, the Coffee Travel Mugs and Spa Slippers were a hit at Mother’s Day. Now people are buying the very inexpensive Monogrammed Checkbooks for their Teacher Appreciation gifts.

How do you advertise your business? Which methods proved successful/effective?
I have done a little bit of advertising in various Mom’s Club newsletters. I have also participated in some vendor shows. Mostly, people find me on the internet or attend a home party. It’s funny, I haven’t had the budget for any real advertisements but we are still doing really well!


How do you juggle family and work at home?
Ummm, it’s been hard!! When I started in January, Jamie was only 4 months old! And Lindsey was a very needy 2 year old! I worked mostly at night with my husband or during naptime… who am I kidding, I took naps as often as possible!! But my husband has been a huge part of the success because he really loves playing around with the website and working on different gadgets to make it better.


What advice would you give to moms seeking to become a WAHM?
BE ORGANIZED!!!
