Meet the Mom Behind Savvy Girl & Company!

Who is SavvyGirl & Company? Where are you located?
SavvyGirl & Company is cute little sassy, spunky and oh so savvy handmade jewelry business located in San Diego, CA. All pieces are handmade here in San Diego and we take great pride in creating all of our pieces to be unique, fun and different. All pieces are on a limited basis and go very quickly so, when you see something you like, don’t delay or it could be gone!


How did you come up with your business name?
SavvyGirl & Company comes from my oldest daughter who is named Savannah – as a baby I always called her SavvyGirl and it just felt right when putting our company together. My daughters are a major source of my daily inspiration and it just works.


When and why did you decide to start your own business?
I had been fortunate enough to enjoy a long career in the outside professional world but always dreamed of owning my own company. When Savvy came along, I always knew that I would make the choice to stay at home with my family and leave the corporate world behind. Fashion, designing and jewelry has always been a passion of mine so I combined it all together and SavvyGirl & Co. was born!

How did you get started?
I had always kept designs stored away, mostly in my mind, but I began attending bead and jewelry shows in LA and San Francisco, making contacts with vendors, and little by little, one by one – pieces were made and began to sell. Funny Story, my dad (recently retired from a long career) was visiting one week to see our new arrival, Savannah, and I put him to work in the assembly line – he loved it and became addicted at least for the week – he was a great help to me!!


What motivates you to keep your business going?
I love creating and designing. That is a challenge in and of itself to keep going but most of all, I love seeing the joy each piece brings to my clients. I love how a simple piece of jewelry can change outfit and bring the simplest of shirt to life!


Do you have a particular product that's a best-seller on your site?
I have one piece that keeps selling over and over again – it’s called the Confetti bracelet! The design is so simple yet so cute, versatile and fun. It came to me early in the morning – it actually woke me up and I went right to work. Ever since then, it has been a hit!


How do you advertise your business? Which methods proved successful/effective?
I have never done any formal advertising – for six years it has been through word of mouth and since I started my blog in January 2008 to promote my business it has proven to be very effective.


How do you juggle family and work at home?
That is a very tough question – it’s hard to juggle both family and work. Balance, Balance and Balance!! I really try to work early in the morning and late at night after my girls are in bed. My girls and family are always my priority so, work comes after them – it seems to work out pretty well – I hope!


What advice would you give to moms seeking to become a WAHM?
Stay true to yourself – do what works best for you and never stop reaching for your goals and dreams. They will come true with hard work and dedication. Surround yourself wit positive and supportive people.

Being a WAHM is something I am so glad that I have the opportunity to do. It’s a lot of hard work to keep things balanced but when I keep a good perspective on my business, things always seem to work out.
